Construct - Deconstruct - Construct - Deconstruct
The song-creation process is a brutal one at times. I have a self-set deadline of late-May to get this worship project completed. Studio time has been sparce lately, only because I can’t get my head wrapped around the formation of these songs.
I’ll start with an acoustic demo. Listen to it, and construct the other parts; electric lead/hook, electric rythym, drums (are the straight?, driving?, abstract?), how the bass line move? Is there a string arrangement in there somewhere? How about keys? All these thoughts run through my head…
Then I’ll meet up with my bassist and drummer in the studio. Cut some parts, and construct/deconstruct around them again. Do the electric guitar parts work? Is the acoustic leading the song, or providing background rhythm?
This is my artistic-process, I guess. The worst part is taking two-steps back after every move forward. I construct, then deconstruct the whole song. Write new parts. Construct again - evaluate - maybe decontruct certain parts of the arrangement - start over …
This demo of “Breathe Into Me” will lose all of it’s parts soon, and be reconstructed … again. I’m not happy with it. Bass and Drums will be the only thing that stays - everything else: Back to the drawing board (or microphone).

Clearly I See
Verse1:
E/G# F#m A
The words you left are stronger than
B E/G#
My castles built on silt and sand
F#m A
The ties that bind me under the surface
B C#m A E/G# B [5/4]
Came undone when you love with purpose
E/G# F#m A
The generations that came before us
B E/G#
Sang this song in attempts to know you
F#m A
Pious men with their deceiving ways
B C#m
Bowed their heads - said, “forgive me please”
A E/G# B
I don’t want to live my father’s sins – and they sang
Chorus:
C#m A E/G#
Amazing grace how sweet the sound
B
Saved a wretch like me
C#m A E/G#
I once was lost, and now I’m found
B [5/4] E/G# F#m A B
Was blind and now I see
Verse2:
The gifts we give we give in secret
Boxed and bowed hidden with pretty paper
Something for nothing, this thought is foreign
Freedom we live, lives we ransomed for it
We don’t want to admit these things
And we sing
Bridge:
E/G# F#m A
We’re not that different, we feel the same
B E/G# F#m A
Make yourself bigger by carrying things
B C#m A
What are you carrying?
E/G# B
What are you carrying?
